HELL DRIVERS
Stanley Baker, as a drifter called Tom, stars in this gritty British film about the seamy side of the haulage business. Also starring in this film are Patrick McGoohan, who gives one of his first major screen performances as evil bully Red, who is jealous of Baker's arrival; Herbert Lom, who plays Baker's Italian friend Gino - just about Tom's only friend, as the other drivers side with Red; shifty boss William Hartnell, and Peggy Cummins as Gino's unfaithful girlfriend Lucy, with Tom being the uninterested object of her affection. 'Hell Drivers' was also notable for being the first film Sean Connery made a meaningful appearance in, and other British stars included Sid (then Sidney) James, Alfie Bass, Gordon Jackson, Jill Ireland, Robin Bailey, and, before his 'The Man From U.N.C.L.E.' days, David McCallum. - Paul Rance/booksmusicfilmstv.com. |
